At five weeks the nestlings had become full size, and their feathering appeared complete. Once an adult opened a carcass, the nestlings could eat it themselves.

The mother now seemed more willing to leave the nest for extended periods; although she almost always went just to another branch of the tree, she also made more extended flights around the park.
