At the end of five weeks, the nestlings seemed to be losing patience with life in the nest. Mom spent more time away too.

The nestlings began testing their wings and making their first excursions--more hops than true flight--from the nest.

Somebody had to be first... Number One made the first trip outside, crashing up and down the branches near the nest. Fortunately, his feet were better practiced than his wings!
